About Ram Racing
Operating Principles
Ram Racing is a diverse group of students that collaborate to design, build and race a formula style car through the implementation and execution of engineering concepts. We strive to be a top contender at the international FSAE collegiate competitions while creating an inviting, safe environment that above all, fuels passion.
Team Building
The Formula series SAE competition is a professional collegiate competition where teams design, build, and race formula style racecars in several events including endurance, agility and acceleration.
Success in Formula SAE relies on a strong team where each member can work effectively and colaborate with their peers whether in design, testing, or manufacturing. Effective teamwork and are instrumental in teams like Ram Racing and allow us to effectively tackle large problems
Lessons Learned
Ram Racing is an established engineering organization at CSU. As a member of the suspension team I have participated in the design and modeling of the suspension. From this I have learned that often talking through a problem with another person can open up ideas about how to solve it better.
Cost Estimate
The overall budget for past vehicles is often over 80000 dollars. Ram Racing often spends a signifigant portion of this cost on suspension and extra parts. last year approximately 20000 dollars was spent on suspension, 25000 dollars was spent on the frame, 15000 dollars was spent on aerodynamics, and another 20000 was spent on driver interfaces and the engine.
Efficency Improvement Proposal
To improve the efficency of this projcet there are several adjustments to the design that could be made. One is to remore the aerodynamic structures from the design. This could be viable because often the most compettitive top 20 teams do not use a aerodynamic car and instead spend the time perfecting the actual vehicle.
Mass Production Cost Estimate
To mass produce this vehicle, at about 10000 units it would cost approximately 800,000,000 dollars. This would likely be reduced when factoring in economies of scale as the cost of the materials to make the final product would be notably less expensive. as it stands the car is made over the course of 1 school year but to make the manufacture more viable it could be made in a production line which would decrease the time to produce a vehcile drastically.
